RAE Consulting also undertakes commisioned research using a wide variety of research methods. We offer expertise in survey design and implementation, systematic research synthesis, data mining and the extraction of activity-relevant information from large and complex datasets (such as the 2001 Census and other large-scale government surveys), spatial analysis and GIS, project evaluation, equity audits and needs assessment. We also posses expertise in public policy and service provision in rural areas and in planning regulation and policy, particularly concerning the rapidly evolving issue of sustainable development.

A key focus of our activity, however, lies in supporting public services configure their activities to match the needs of the populations they serve. Resource allocation, service configuration and the development and targeting of particular interventions all call for a detailed understanding of service needs at the local level. Using innovative methodologies to generate robust measures of service need at the ward or sub-ward level, RAE Consulting can help ensure that its public sector clients possess the evidence needed to deliver an equitable and efficient service.
